Grammar Explanation
Adjectives (būdvardžiai) in Lithuanian are words that describe nouns by providing qualities or characteristics. They answer questions such as 'what kind?', 'which one?', or 'how many?'. Lithuanian adjectives must agree with the nouns they describe in gender (masculine or feminine), number (singular or plural), and case (seven cases in Lithuanian grammar).
Adjectives usually come before the noun they modify, but can sometimes follow the noun for stylistic effect. In Lithuanian, most adjectives have two main forms: definite and indefinite, with definite forms used for something specific or previously known. Adjectives are commonly used when talking about people, objects, places, colors, quantities, sizes, or describing someone's mood.

- •“Mano naujas automobilis yra greitas. (My new car is fast.)”
- •“Linksmas berniukas žaidžia parke. (The happy boy is playing in the park.)”
- •“Šiltos dienos ateina pavasarį. (The warm days come in spring.)”

Tips
- 💡Always match the adjective's gender, number, and case to the noun it describes—this is one of the most common learner mistakes.
- 💡Watch out for adjectives with irregular forms; memorize the most frequent ones (such as 'geras' for 'good').
- 💡A handy mnemonic: masculine adjectives in the nominative singular often end in -as or -is, while feminine ones usually end in -a or -i.
- 💡Practice by describing objects around you using color or size adjectives to reinforce agreement patterns.
- 💡Be aware of the difference between definite and indefinite forms; definite forms are often longer and end with -ysis, -oji, etc.
