Announcement of the Ethical AI Media Platform

The Global Media and Culture Council (GMCC) is pleased to announce the launch of its Ethical AI Media Platform, which will go live on 30 March. Developed in response to recent public debates about deepfakes, online disinformation, and AI-generated art, the platform aims to help cultural institutions share trustworthy digital content without missing the boat on innovation. The Chair of the GMCC Board stated that the project had been designed after experts had warned that, if media organizations ignored AI entirely, they might soon be left talking to themselves. At the same time, the Board acknowledged concerns about privacy and cultural bias, adding that several pilot projects had already raised eyebrows among artists whose work was copied without consent. If the Council had not invested in independent audits two years ago, we would now be unable to guarantee that our systems respect basic human rights. In order to ensure that everyone is on the same page, member organizations are invited to attend a virtual town hall next week. Participants will be asked what guidelines they would propose if they were responsible for drawing a clear line between creative inspiration and cultural appropriation. As a rule of thumb, the Council will favor solutions that encourage open debate, protect vulnerable communities, and still keep the door open to technological progress in the long run.
